The Fish

In the Poem "The Fish" Elizabeth Bishop is focused on explaining the joy of fishing. This poem shows the beauty of fishing and how you can catch a fish. In the poem it explains details about how the fish looks. When it says his "brown skin hung in strips like ancient wall-paper" it explains how the fish looks as it was hanging from the hook on the fishing pole. This poem is trying to get readers to realize there is beauty to fishing when you catch one. "Course white flesh packed in like feathers" explains the detail of what the gills of the fish looks like. The fish survives but bleeds a little from the hooks that are attached to it's body. "Fresh crisp blood" is what the poem describes about the fish when it is caught. Some people think of fishing as a boring hobby that is not fun to do. This poem tries to show the real nature of fishing and how it can be exciting. Paying attention to the detail of what a fish looks like and how it acts is what people don't do when fishing. Most people just catch a fish and that is it. They don't take time to observe all the wonderful things that can happen during fishing. At the end of the poem the fish is let go and survives. The man is catching the fish just so he can enjoy the fishing experience. The oil that is released near the boat causes a rainbow that is seen when releasing the fish. The beauty of nature is shown in this poem when it talks about the fisherman catching his fish. He admires the details and surroundings of where the boat is located in the water. He is a man that finds fishing very relaxing and fun to do. The fisherman feels at home when he's in his boat in the water catching a fish. The wind and smell of the river makes him feel happy because fishing is his hobby. This poem shows the meaning of fishing and how it can take some practice. When fishing you have to have a grip on the fishing pole so you don't lose the fish when you catch one. A fish can get away if it doesn't bite the hook hard enough. Any little kid can have a good memory with there dad or mom that takes them fishing when they are little. This is a bonding time for families that love spending time together. When fishing some people kill the fish so they can eat it for food or they just choose to let it go back in the water. The feeling of catching a fish is a rewarding feeling for someone to have. The reason it is rewarding is because it's not always easy to catch a fish. Fishing is a hobby that takes patience sometimes. Everyone in there lifetime should go fishing at least once to experience the wonderful time you can have with family and friends!
